Light burst through the dark, blinding my eyes as flashes of my mother staring into Deimos’ eyes flooded in, her memories bleeding into mine — standing like a shield between him and me. ‘He is your enemy. The one you need to — have to — end.’ Her bitterness, her hatred and her wrath overwhelmed me. My fists clenched, my jaw locked, and my body trembled, not with fear, but with pure, consuming rage. Symptoms of the Madness affliction: heavy, lifeless eyes ringed with chronic bruise-like dark circles. Normally, I would have cowered beneath such a sublime presence, but holding his gaze, I glared right into his eyes.

The brick walls bled moisture, smelling of sour trash and old rain. Red light pinpricked the darkness. Thirty of them. Tiny, unblinking eyes of light crawled over her leather jacket, settling on her throat, her chest, and right between her eyes.

Xavier knew that she was leaving and his friends wouldn't help him so the only way to fool them was to silently retreat and part ways. "Now how will you escape?" Coiling his long fingers around the steering wheel, Xavier smirked and pressed the accelerator. Grace was here. His heart said she was here. It might be foolish but Xavier had a strong feeling about it. He smirked watching the cops who quickly aimed their guns at him. But nothing can put a break on his madness.
