“No pressure, then.” Corvin arched a brow. “You’re already under it. You just keep pretending you’re not.” Silence stretched between us, heavy with things I didn’t want named. “What happens,” I asked finally, “if the Alpha rejects the bond?” Corvin didn’t answer right away. He stared into his mug, jaw tightening. “Then the fire looks elsewhere,” he said. “And gods help anyone standing in its path.” My wolf snarled uneasily. I stood, heart pounding. “You’re saying she’s dangerous.”

I had yet to see someone without a lump of metal attached to their belt. “Who the fuck do you think you are to come here and start laying down rules?” Tye slammed his hands on his desk in rage. “Your Alphas mate. True challenges are done bare handed. Only a coward who feared their opponent would use a weapon.” I couldn’t help but laugh as he growled his eyes flicking between his own and those of his wolf.

Shaking my head, I open my eyes and answer him flatly, “Honestly, I don’t know where I was going, but to me it seemed that I was intruding, and I didn’t want to bother you any longer.” “Woman. What on earth are you talking about? She is my beta. One of my second in command. I was merely calming her and assuring her that everything would be alright.” He says in a louder tone than he should have because now everyone is staring at us. When the doctor walks up to us, he pats Alexander on the back and asks quietly, “Is everything alright here, Alpha?”

But enough. The Alpha exhales slowly, tension easing from his shoulders for the first time all day. “We’ll start small,” he says. “Limited anchors. Short durations. Beta Jesse then chuckled before he said, “Alpha Shawn, an Alpha is the same thing as a Beta but just one step higher. You still can train your warriors and lead them into battle. You’re just not the second man anymore but the first man in charge.”

I am wearing the pin every day. I have not taken it off since you put it on my collar. It is at my left shoulder, on my alpha sash now, in a position the pack has been asked to recognize. Finally, they blessed my feet with hard leather sandals made from the hide of a black bear, before placing some golden cuffs on my arms and ankle, giving me a perfect mighty Alpha look. The moment I stepped into the hall, the atmosphere shifted. The elders and prominent pack members bowed deeply, while the pack musicians played an energetic tune to mark my arrival. My Beta, Henry, stepped forward and placed the Alpha Cap on my head. With an aura of authority, I raised my hand high. “Long live the pillars of the RED TEETH PACK!” I declared. “Forever live our able Alpha!” they chorused, bowing their heads four times in perfect unison. Irene, by his side, lowered herself as well, though her eyes glistened with tears that she could no longer hold back. Baron placed the circlet upon Bryan’s head, his voice booming with authority. “By blood and by bond, by the will of this pack and the blessing of our ancestors, I pass to you the mantle of Alpha. Lead with wisdom, lead with strength, lead with honor. From this day forward, you are the Alpha of Blue Rock.”

The Alpha got up and came to us. “Congratulations, Alexander.” He shook me. “Thank you, Alpha,” I said. “Now, we can proceed to ordain you as the Beta.” I nodded. Tina smiled and walked four steps away so the Alpha stood next to me with the mantle of authority. “Stretch your hands out, and cut yourself with this.” He gave me a metal blade, which had dried blood on it. It was the dried blood of the previous Betas. “Tearing yourself with this will link you to the previous Betas that had existed in the pack. For three minutes, you will blackout as you will be transitioning. The beta authority will be on you after.” He explained and I nodded.
