Years ago, before the wars, before Richard rose to Alpha, before our pack had even rebuilt its borders. A night so black it swallowed the stars, and a howl that split the air like thunder. The stories had called it a curse, others a spirit of vengeance. But the truth was simpler and far worse. A Dire Wolf. Not a beast. Not a legend. Something beyond both. The kind of wolf that could rip through an Alpha’s defenses as if they were made of paper. Stronger, faster, ancient — blessed and cursed by something none of us could name.

“What is it?” Her voice shook. “Ma… the Wolf Pack Enforcement Unit is here.” Ice slid down my spine. “For what?” “They said they were sent to ‘verify your compliance.’” My heart stilled. That unit wasn’t used for taxes or inspection. They were used for intimidation. The Alpha's of all the five packs were seen standing next to each other, whispering to themselves so that the other wolves won't hear them. Soon, Osiris Wilderwood and his sons made their appearance in the compound and everywhere was quiet. The four of them were a sight to behold. Osiris Wilderwood and his two sons were on black suits except Zinedine Wilderwood who was just in simple black jeans and a long sleeve brown shirt with a black boots to go with.

The wolves surrounded him, ready to take his life as they were commanded not to leave any survivors except the Alpha's daughter. Then, two wolves burst from the shadows and suddenly started attacking the rogues. One was a huge black wolf, twice the size of all the other wolves, and the other was a brown wolf. The huge black wolf’s eyes gleamed red, symbolizing that he was an Alpha, but that wasn't what made the rogues fear him—the mark on the wolf's face made them recognize him as Alpha Kayden and without waiting, they all took to their heels.

The word felt heavy, like something I had heard in stories but never in real life. He nodded. “Yes. Werewolves live in packs. Think of it like a family but also like a company. The Alpha is like the manager or the leader. They make decisions for the good of everyone. Under the Alpha there is the Beta, who helps lead and keep order, and then the Gamma who takes on other duties. It is a hierarchy; a system that keeps the pack strong.”
