Heat and Rut

They shifted at the same time. Two huge wolves circled. Ragar lunged first, and Kael dodged and snapped at his throat. They crashed together, teeth flashed. Blood sprayed the dirt, I couldn’t breathe. Ragar got Kael’s shoulder and tore deep. Kael roared and twisted. He locked jaws on Ragar’s neck and shook hard, bones cracked loudly. Ragar went limp.
Kael dropped the body and shifted back. Blood poured from his shoulder and side, he stood over the dead Beta and looked at the elders. “My mate stays. Anyone else?”
