Chapter Two

LARKXE

“Dad, are you being serious right now? You want me to get married to a that woman?” I whispered loudly at my father who stood next to me in the room I had dragged him to, after he had landed the very big blow on me. I had rushed down to the Lakewood mansion when he had called me, thinking there had been an urgent meeting, just as he had implied.

I had certainly not been expecting to come home to a full entourage of in-laws-to-be.

“Lark, you have to understand that we need this alliance to make our pack stronger. You won’t see the use now, but later in the future, when I am no more, you would realize what I have just done for you.” He said, walking closer to me and placing his hands gently on my shoulders as he spoke.

If he was thinking what he had just said to me make any sense, then he had a big one coming.

I shook his hands off my shoulders and walked away from where he was. I thanked the moon for the kind of walls we had in the mansion. The walls of Mansion Lakewood was built and sealed with a witch’s spell so the usual super sense of a werewolf that allowed them to hear everything did not work. Well it worked, but not for outsiders. So the people in the next room could not hear what we were saying. The spells were cast because of the Onwa witches who shared the mansion with us.

“I would say this, and I want you to listen and respect my decision. I would not marry that girl, whether you like it or not. You cannot just throw a bride at me and expect me to just accept it.” I said, with a finality in my tone. I hadn’t even looked at the woman sitting in there a second time, before asking my father to follow me. I wasn’t interested. Period.

Alpha Lotan nodded his head and cleared his throat. “I guess I cannot force you to do anything you dint want to do.” He shrugged and patted me on the my back before making his way back into room full of people.

I shivered at the thought of going back in there. I really didn’t want to be there, so I hesitated a little.

My father must have felt my reluctance because his voice filtered into my thoughts. “Stay.” I felt bad for not doing what he wanted, but it was i who was going to suffer at the end, bound forever with a strange woman.

I opened another door and was about walking towards my bedroom when I felt it. It felt like I had been hit with something, but at the same time, it felt like I hadn’t taken the hit directly. Like there was a barrier shielding me so I felt only the force of the hit, but not the pain.

I frowned and looked outside a window which was just next to me. From where I was standing, I could see a strange car parked just outside the mansion, on a spot that wasn’t supposed to be parked on. Whoever had brought that car there must have been a visitor if not he would have been aware that nobody parked there.

Something still drew me to the window, so I walked to it yo take a closer look. I reached the window just in time to see a redhead walk out of the car and run towards the entrance of the mansions with her arms wide, like she wanted to hug someone. From the angle I was, I couldn’t see more as she had now disappeared from my sight. I hadn’t even seen her face.

I closed my eyes and tried to sense her, or at least catch a scent, but I was hit by that invincible force again, both I and my wolf. We staggered backwards as it caused us a slight pain, knocking my breath away.

I held the wall behind me for support and tried to catch my breath again. Even my wolf glided along my skin as it tried to settle itself.

What was going on?

I pushed myself off the wall and continued my journey back to my room, loosing interest in the stranger outside. She must have been part of the crazy entourage that were my father’s visitors. And whoever she was, she was not worth my headache.

I opened my room door and stepped inside, closing it behind me. There was a little pressure on my chest so I placed my hand there and rubbed it to soothe it down.

I had never felt anything like it before.

My phone rang, and I pushed my hand into my pocket and fished it out.

Uricio

My best friend, and cousin.

“Uri,” I walked to my bed and sat down, using one hand to hold the phone, while the other untied the shoe laces of my boots, pulling them off, one after the other.

“Lark, hey man, I was calling to tell you I am back in town. Came back this morning.” He sounded really excited.

I frowned. “You are back in town, but ditching family duties. You better get your sorry ass to the mansion before I come drag you here myself.” I warned. It was my way of saying I had missed the hell out of him. Uri had left for an important business trip and hadn’t been at Lakewood for over two months. Knowing my cousin, he would in no way, spent the wholr two months doing just business. I was pretty sure he had found a balance between business and pleasure.

He snorted. “Oh please. You are better at handling the affairs of Lakewood more than the whole family combined. So I know it’s in good hands. You don’t need me there.” I heard light laughter in the background making me wonder where he was.

“Get your ass down here man. Things are getting really crazy over here,” my thoughts went back to the scene I had just run away from, making me feel irritation. The fact that they had been so eager to get their daughter married to a stranger who wasn’t even her mate, was still baffling to me.

“Really? I want to hear everything_” someone interrupted him in the background, cutting him off. “Listen, Lark, there is a party tonight at the Lakewood lounge, come around. It’s VIP.”

By the moon!

Whenever Uri talked about a VIP party, I knew it was going to be lit, and would not end well, even if it was going to be enjoyable. Our parent’s had been distraught the last time, when we had gotten arrested after fighting. It had been Uri’s fault anyway.

“Well, after the episode here earlier, I wouldn’t miss a party invite. After all, it’s the last Friday of the month.” I agreed without thinking twice. I and Uri usually went out of town on the last weekends of the month. I hadn’t been expecting him to be around so I hadn’t planned on anything.

“Good, I’ll see you then.” He hung up. It seemed he was quite busy.

I tossed my phone away and pulled off my shirt then unbuttoned my trousers to loosen up the pressure on my waist, before laying down on the bed and closing my eyes.

There was still a strange feeling in me, even my wolf felt uncomfortable.

Whatever was wrong, I hoped I got to relax at the party.
