Arthur stepped closer, opening the velvet cloth. On the silver tray was embedded an arrow plated with pure gold. At the tip of the arrow, there was a piece of white parchment written in dark purple ink - the color of royalty that became extinct centuries ago. Alexander frowned. His eyes narrowed at the strange aura from the arrow. "Pure gold? Wolves don't use soft gear to kill." Chloe took the letter on the parchment. His aura remained ice cold, but his eyes sharpened as he tore through every word written there. Signed, Aurelius Dynasty.

“And no oath from Lorelai.” The fae witnesses murmured. One wolf shifted forward, then stopped when Lorelai faced him. She placed her palm over the amulet’s opened compartment, offering contact without blood. The foundation stone inside felt cold. The circle remained dark. Then the Veyr symbol rose across the vellum: a crowned gate wrapped in three thorned lines. It brightened just enough for every witness to see. Golden Sunset read the old script. “Lorelai Veyr, direct descendant of Isolde Veyr.”

Alaric said. “Lilith.” “The Mother of Demons?” Amethyst and Alpha Ford said at the same time. These war room meetings didn’t include all the other Alphas, but Alpha Ford and Amethyst were the experts on lore and history. If Amethyst was there, so was Ford. They looked at each other with wide eyes full of fear. Usually, when they had one of these moments—where they would say the same thing simultaneously, brainstorming, remembering lore and history—they would look at each other, smile, and kiss. It was adorable. This was on the disturbing side.

Before I can say anything, Aurelian takes the chalice. “I, Tobias Cade Walsh pledge my loyalty, my service, and my life to you Alpha Darius Colt Barnett, and to you Alpha Luna Diamond Joy Stone.” Aurelian says in his deep, husky voice. He sips from the chalice, and he drops to the ground, grabbing his head. A muffled groan escapes him. I crouch down to help him.

“The bond between Alpha and Luna is not just love. It’s power shared through blood and spirit. During the Blood Moon, your connection will be your only weapon.” Mira began gathering materials from the shelves. “I’ll help her prepare.” Aldric walked toward a small altar at the back of the room and picked up a crystal that glowed faint blue. “Take this,” he said, handing it to Liora. “It will let you feel the pulse of the divine within him when the moon begins to rise. But use it only when necessary. Too much exposure and it will burn through your spirit.” Liora held the crystal tightly. “How much time do I have?”

Interesting. “It’s true. That was pretty awesome,” Rory replied, looking at me with a goofy grin. I narrowed my eyes at him as I took a sip of beer. What was he up to? “What about you, Soph? Do you think Rider will be a good alpha when he takes over the title in a few weeks?” Rory asked, his head tilted to the side as he waited for an answer. “Of course I do. He’s strong, smart, loyal, and caring, all characteristics of a good leader,” I blurted out and immediately covered my mouth with my hand.

“It might be coming late but it's still something.“ We all watched as he lifted a small bundle wrapped in oilcloth, stained with soot. He unrolled it as he came closer to reveal pages of brittle parchment charred like someone once tried to set it alight. I grimaced from the scent, the foulness cut through my thoughts. My brows knitted together as I took a long look at it. “What is that?” Lorcan’s thumb pressed gently against a line of cramped symbols inked in red. “A sorcery ledger. Moonstone archives said to burn it with the rest when your mother died, Harlyn.”

Some secrets were meant to rot. ​"Over here," Lysander called out from a central, circular chamber. A massive stone altar stood in the middle of the room, surrounded by seven high pillars, each carved with a different phase of the moon. "This is the central ledger of the First Priests. The script is the high Vaelcrest dialect." ​"Can you read it, Seraphina?" Kaelor asked, stepping up to her left flank, his warmth a steady, grounding presence against the oppressive chill of the vault.
