Vaelspire Keep, The Forbidden Vault The Vault doors groaned open, revealing shelves lined with tomes bound in skin and bone. All the ancient and forbidden books of the old were stored and recorded there. Books with knowledge too ancient, too powerful, and useful to their enemies were stored here. Alaric stepped inside, torch in hand, his eyes scanning until they found the one he needed. It read, Bloodborne Bonds: Curses, Hybrids, and Abominations. He flipped through the pages, stopping when he saw an illustration that made his heart freeze.

"An ancient relic. A remnant from the first werewolves. It holds power—power that can shift the balance of everything we know." The council erupted into murmurs, the weight of her revelation sinking in. Kaelan remained still, analyzing every flicker of Liora’s expression, searching for any sign of deceit. "Why would Alaric go after something like that?" Liora hesitated, her eyes narrowing as she weighed her next words. "Because he’s losing." Kaelan leaned forward, his voice low and sharp, a dangerous edge to it. "And you’re telling me this out of the kindness of your heart?"

“He denies it.” Aldric swallowed. “That makes him more dangerous than any weapon ever forged.” “And more valuable,” Kael added grimly. Liora rounded on him, fire flaring beneath the exhaustion. “Then hear this clearly,” she said, voice steel despite the tremor beneath it. “No one touches him. Not councils. Not scholars. Not ancient orders crawling out of forgotten tombs. Not gods buried in stone.” Draven rose slowly, towering, lethal, the wolf unmistakably close to the surface. “Let them try.”

Scarlet’s stomach dropped. Beta Alaric inhaled slowly. “That’s treason.” “That’s survival,” Liora shot back. “And don’t act holy. You’re already fucking complicit.” Scarlet’s hands shook and her wolf snarled viciously. She wants him dead. “…You’re insane,” Alaric muttered. Liora laughed again. “Say you won’t help me.” Scarlet heard the footsteps before she scented her mother. Luna Helena.

Alaric said. “Lilith.” “The Mother of Demons?” Amethyst and Alpha Ford said at the same time. These war room meetings didn’t include all the other Alphas, but Alpha Ford and Amethyst were the experts on lore and history. If Amethyst was there, so was Ford. They looked at each other with wide eyes full of fear. Usually, when they had one of these moments—where they would say the same thing simultaneously, brainstorming, remembering lore and history—they would look at each other, smile, and kiss. It was adorable. This was on the disturbing side.

A growl sounded behind Arla, and Victor’s eyes widened, fear spiking in him. “He’s just a friend.” “A friend who used to be a boyfriend. The bond thrummed with tension, uncertainty, and excitement. Luca’s hand tightened around hers.

I've talked to maybe twenty or more women for the night and it's barely ten o clock and I'm this close to flinging myself off the balcony out of pure boredom.
