Amy might have sensed something in my voice as she dragged her chair closer toward me.
“While we poured our souls into our startup, we scraped by with odd jobs, renting a cramped garage that served as both home and office,” I confessed, the memories of those trying times still raw. “But through it all, I thought the only good thing was Bella in my life, my first love, the woman who stood by me, or I thought so. I asked her to marry me. And, surprisingly, she said yes. I have no money, prospects, or even a home. I felt so fucking happy knowing she loved me, even if I had nothing. I wanted to be something for her.”
