The silver flecks hiding inside his gray eyes. The faint flush on his cheeks from the whiskey. The way his breathing wasn’t nearly as steady as he probably wanted me to believe. His cologne lingered between us. Clean, subtle, comforting. He smelled… inviting. “What are you doing?” he asked. I glanced down briefly. At his lips. They were slightly parted and they looked soft. I smirked. “What do you think I’m doing?”

Then take all this to the table, decorating it with a beautiful red rose. “They're ready,” I tell him excitedly, he gets up from the couch without any expression, throws his book at the couch and it falls on the floor, so I go for it and take it in my hands. I was honestly expecting to find a science or medicine book, but what I found was a cute fairy tale book. I just smiled when I saw different classic stories in this book, like Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella, but the doctor called me so I had to put him on the couch. “Miss Jefferson, present me your dish.” He tells me very seriously, while he thinks he is a chef.

"Not for sale. Just… in case the rain lasts." That made her smile wider. “You run this place?” “Yes, I’ve been a book lover since I was a kid, I bought it from an old couple ten years ago.” “That's cute.” “So, tea?” “Tea sounds nice.” Three minutes later, they sat by the window, Teacups between them. Romance books neither of them had opened. "You don’t seem like the romance type," she teased. Rowan’s ears turned pink. "I like the ones where love sneaks up. You know? Two people… just slowly falling. No games. No drama. Just warmth.”

"This isn’t a romance novel, Nanny. This is my life, and I’m just trying to do my job without embarrassing myself." Nanny laughs, clearly enjoying this way too much. "Oh, Isa. You’re making it sound like it’s the worst thing in the world. Just imagine it—a forbidden workplace romance, secret glances, and the tension! Oh, how thrilling! The babysitter and the boss. You’ve already got the perfect setup." I glare at her. "Nanny, stop. He’s my boss, and he has a child. A cute child, by the way, who is clearly going through something. I’m not about to entertain any fantasies about him."

"I'm not picky with books." "Oh uh, I thought you liked romance, since that's what you always read." I blinked at her. You claim you're not following me and yet you know the type of books I like, you're clueless about what you want from my workplace yet say you came here to get books, and if you know I like romance, then why ask? "Yes, I read romance novels. If you'd like those, I can direct you towards them." "Oh sure, that'll be lovely. Thank you." I didn't respond, just took the lead and took her towards the romance novels, and before she could ask me to choose one for her, I left her there and went back to the desk.

Edward handled most of them while I restocked shelves and learned the layout. Around two, a woman came in looking for a specific dark romance. "Do you have anything like Butcher & Blackbird?" she asked. "I just finished it and I need something similar." Edward looked at me. "Maliya?" I stepped forward. "Have you read Haunting Adeline? Or the Broken Bride series? They've got similar dark romance vibes with morally gray love interests." Her face lit up. "I haven't read either of those. Where are they?" I led her to the romance section, pulled both books, gave her quick summaries.

I’m damn proud of it, and I’m glad I didn’t give up after the first fail. I’ve discovered that I get into those fantasy stories where one person knows who his or her soul mate is upon meeting them, or even before that, as what happened in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, A Kinda Fairy Tale series by Cassandra Gannon, and many of the shifter books by Eve Langlais that I have loved so much. So that’s where I came up with the Love Mark idea.
