The mattress dipped beneath my weight, and I carefully placed one hand near Amelia, the other hovering just above Ruby’s little body.

A golden light began to build around his palms, but this time, as soon as it touched Amelia, it was streaked with that same inky blackness I had seen earlier. I can tell it’s the curse as it writhed and twisted within the light, almost like it was alive.
