My black heels made some noise which is the reason why he faced us. Is this IV? I was expecting to meet an older man, just like the businessmen I’ve seen earlier at the party. But what I am seeing right now is a tall man, probably in his early thirties, wearing a black tuxedo that fits his firm body. He started moving in our direction. Slowly, I can clearly his features. A pair of deep brown eyes are intently gazing at us. A smile crossed his face when he got closer to us, “Finally, I’ve come to meet you,” He extended his right hand in front of me “I am IV, the President of La Resistencia.”

Isa pa, hindi ako napunta rito para lang mamatay dahil sa kapwa ko hayop. This is my body, my soul. I better take care of it for the time being. I am constantly on the lookout for any indication of fauna while making my way towards the inner part of the seemingly endless forest. Mukhang wala naman. Perfect. Robert asked. “I agree,” Caine continued. “You would be playing a difficult game trying to make my people talk, but there’s someone else with them who might be a little less challenging.” The other two exchanged looks of confusion as well as interest. “Someone?” Robert uttered. “Who?” “He’s no Ravennite,” Caine droned on. “He’s an Outsider, and a young one at that.” “What?” Robert was quite surprised. “What do you mean an Outsider? Is he one of ours?”

“I was a scout for the military—a really good one. It was compulsory for me to have a good sense of smell. Hence, I managed to determine that the man I’m getting this scent from isn’t a Gardner, but an outsider. “He’s an outsider who’s been able to come and leave your house without your grounds security noticing him, on top of meeting your mother. In other words, he’s an expert at what he does.” Nadine was engrossed in what Adrian was telling her and felt that it was all very logical. She urged, “Go on.”

Kade turned to me and gave a small nod — *your turn*. I swallowed hard. This was it. No alphas to hide behind. No more running. I stepped forward. The pack fell completely silent. “I know some of you are wondering what the hell I’m doing here,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. “I’m an outsider. I ran from my old pack. I showed up half-starved and desperate. And now I’m standing in front of you as your Luna.” I looked around slowly, meeting as many eyes as I could.

The soul inside me gave off a lullaby-sounding hum if any Other were to check. I casually glanced over my shoulder to peek at him. From the side, standing at the counter that was below waist high for him, you could see the tractor frame shoulders. He was dressed casually, so that came as a surprise. Most others tend to dress to the nines when even visiting a pharmacy. I quickly wondered if his lack of joining a pack had something to do with it. Without a pack or a place to belong, some Others tend to swim and look like the normal dredges of human society. Unfortunately, a financial constitution doesn’t extend to those who don’t cater within the walls.

Some even high-fived the guard, drinks in hand and masks fully decked in different colours. After a few minutes, one man stood out from the crowd. He wore a crimson-coloured three-piece suit with blackout sunglasses and pitch-black hair sleeked back. The guard stopped him, “Outsiders aren’t allowed.” He repeated robotically.

She nodded slowly. “What did you mean,” she asked, “when you called me your mate?” His jaw tightened. “I meant it.” Her heart stuttered. “That word… it carries weight here.” “Yes.” “And consequences.” “Yes.” She looked down. “I don’t even know what I am.” He went still. She lifted her gaze. “What do you mean?” he asked. “I mean…” she hesitated. “Everyone keeps calling me outsider. No bloodline. No origin. No scent they recognize.”

Standing just a foot away from me he raised his hand, I frowned feeling puzzled at the thought of what he was up to with the doctor checking a patient here. Wiping something off my undereye, “You are a Luna, you cannot be this sensitive for everyone except your pack members and,” I did not understand the pause at first but when he finished, “me.” my brows arched up in surprise and even before I could figure out what happened, he continued, “She is just an outsider now, just think what if she comes out to be a rogue?” He mind linked staring directly into my eyes and it was then, I felt the familiar warmth which has been a long since I felt.

I glance quickly at the beast in the suit and then continue, "No matter how you dress me up, make me look good... No one...." I look at him again, "NO ONE! Will accept me until Zachariah changes me... And I would be surprised if I am accepted even then..." I push past Jade and Shade, open the door, and out into the street. As soon as I exit, everyone stops what they are doing and looks at me, that same look of disgust, that I am a lowly human and that I am an outsider is evident on all their faces. I turn away from them and head back toward the mansion. This time I can't stop the tear that escapes and slides down my cheek.
