Broken: Claiming her place
The chamber was still heavy with the echoes of my cleared name when I leaned forward again.
“There’s more,” I said.
The elders had begun to relax, some already whispering among themselves, satisfied that the spectacle had ended but, I wasn’t done. I enlarged the paused frame on the screen, slow, deliberate, and pointed, circling around him.
“There,” I said, my finger steady. “That man.”
They followed my gesture. The image was grainy, taken from the corner of the lounge corridor, but the face was clear enough to burn itself into my memory. The sharp jaw. The familiar eyes and the way his every being rested on just one leg.
