SHARON’S POV I never imagined I would step foot into the royal library for anything other than sneaking in to read fantasy novels I had no business touching. The irony wasn’t lost on me as I sat at the long mahogany table now, a stack of heavy history books in front of me, none of which had dragons, witches, or star-crossed lovers on the covers. The head historian, Elder Marcellus, cleared his throat for what felt like the hundredth time. The man was ancient, his white beard reached almost to his stomach, and he had the habit of adjusting his spectacles every two sentences even when they didn’t need adjusting.

Ancient books lined the shelves, their pages filled with forgotten knowledge, while relics of a bygone era adorned every surface. Curiosity led us deeper into the chamber, until we discovered an old journal, its leather cover aged and weathered. Lya carefully opened it, her eyes scanning the faded ink that adorned its pages. The words within were fragments of a lost history, a testament to the struggles and triumphs of those who had come before us.

The vagueness of the location in both texts and the lack of documented evidence elsewhere in history of ancient China had made the discovery of this tomb almost impossible. It was an accidental discovery by Grace that made her obsessive towards finding the truth behind this rather elusive part of history. Was this a myth, a folklore or was it a well-guarded secret of the ancient world? The discovery that triggered this compulsion in Grace was an autobiography of an Egyptian historian Hori Ramose who lived during the same period of the Qin Dynasty.

Ancient books towered around me. Scrolls were scattered across the stone table. My fingers had gone black with dust and ink. Nothing. Nothing but dead kings and useless wars. I cursed under my breath and reached for another bundle tied with faded red thread. The leather crumbled slightly beneath my fingers as I untied it. Ancient. Very ancient. I unfolded the parchment carefully. At first, my eyes moved lazily across the words.

Rhae slowly walked towards the bookshelf off to the side of the room and began skimming the titles. "Tales of Fae," Aynyra grinned, crossing her legs in the bed like a toddler. Rhae pulled the book off the shelf, examining the repeatedly broken spine and the clear wear and tear on the cloth-covered binding. "A children's book?" Rhae questioned peering at the title. Aynyra chuckled, "It's not a children's book, it's based on history. It's fact." Rhae walked over to the bed laughing, "It's myth Aynyra, don't tell me you believe in the Fae."

Agrip sighed, then began to speak again. “The term “ancients” is a significant concept in history. In one of the history books, the ancients refer to a group of powerful and ancient beings who have lived for thousands of years. They possess exceptional supernatural abilities and are deeply connected to the earth and its elements. They are portrayed as the oldest and most powerful beings in existence. They are revered and feared by vampires, as well as by humans and other supernatural creatures. Their origins are shrouded in mystery, and they are believed to have been created by a higher power or divine force.”

My father wasn’t much of a reader, which made the sheer number of books suspicious in itself. I started at the first shelf, running my fingers along the spines. Most of the books here were generic—ledgers, accounting books, and legal texts. Nothing unusual. But as I moved to the second shelf, I noticed a shift. The titles here were different. The spines were older, the leather worn and cracked. These weren’t the typical records or reference books I’d expected. They were about ancient history—about the moon and the origins of the first wolves. Many of them have some kind of ancient language that even I find hard to read.

He takes it and scans the lines quickly. “Where did you get this?” I ask. “My parents collected books from all over the world. I have no idea where this one came from.” His face stays mostly blank as he reads. He clearly doesn’t care much for old books. “These are just boring words.” “This is history about Zephyra’s kind.
