Monica stood frozen, a cold chill of goosebumps breaking out across her arms. She realized with a sinking wave of dread that while Portia was still drowning in the unhealed trauma of the past, Antonia had genuinely, irreversibly crossed the bridge to the other side of their inverse universe.
Once again, a suffocating wave of guilt flowed all over Monica, heavy and crushing. The clinical coldness in Antonia’s eyes was more terrifying than any scream of anger.
