I gasped, my blood running cold. “What is that?” Darius’s smile was cruel as he watched my reaction. “This, Sera, is our ultimate weapon. A creature forged from the darkest depths of the Abyss, bound to the Apocalypse Key. It’s a being of immense power, beyond anything you or your precious artifact could hope to control.” I stared at the creature, my mind reeling. It was like nothing I had ever seen—its form constantly shifting, flames licking at its shadowy body as it moved with an unnatural grace.

They were staring at him with a religious awe. "The Alpha of the North rejected you," Rowan said, his voice growing stronger, vibrating through the floor. "The Alpha of the South tried to consume you. But they are just 'Characters' in a script that has already failed." He stood up, towering over me. He wasn't the "Runt" anymore. He was the **Beast of the Apocalypse**. "We are going to find the others," Rowan declared. "And we are going to 'Delete' the hierarchy."

"Oh Hiram, where are you even getting this? We don't believe in that. We aren't apes and the Great City learned not to trust omens years ago." He wasn't wrong. Though news did not travel quickly in a world without fast transportation or telephones, any village that wasn't entirely isolated knew what had happened to the City of Beasts, sometimes called Great City, the largest and most advanced settlement in the known region. A purely human girl from a different time and space fell among them, and a cruel and jealous Ape King had turned the entire city on her using magic and premonitions of destruction.

However, it appeared like a snake because it was so massive. After looking at it closely, Andrius’ expression changed drastically. Embedded on the head of the Apocalypse Insect was a person—Halle. The beast wanted to devour Halle. Hiss, hiss... Once the insect appeared, it immediately attacked. Its targets were Arthur and Norvin, who were still standing. “Hmph, even a beast dares to be so presumptuous in front of me? Go to hell!” Arthur roared angrily and charged forward. However, he clearly underestimated the strength of the Apocalypse Insect.

Of course Christopher Henry Jameson—also known as Beast- wasn't the average man. He stood 6'5" and weighed three hundred and two pounds. He didn't like the extra three pounds. Beast was muscles on top of muscles, yet not hulking like some of the others that worked in the Marine Corps division assigned to The Department of Home Land Security, or better known as DHS. Too big made you slow. He'd seen guys bigger than him hospitalized during the CRUCIBLE training.

A massive corrupted beast—something shaped like a lion but composed of bone, fog, and black water—lunged toward Alessia with fanged jaws wide. Alessia lifted a hand. “Down.” The beast froze midair and then slammed into the earth with enough force to crack the ground. Kael sliced its head clean off before it could rise again. Ianthe whistled. “Alessia’s not playing today.” “She never does,” Kael muttered. Seraphine clung to her satchel. “Th-this is worse than the Leviathan—” Rian choked, “Everything is worse than the Leviathan!”

His heart was frozen, filled with tar. He was a Beast. And nothing would change him. He was a skilled manipulator. One that made you doubt yourself. More than physical torture, he aimed for mental one. A part of me was worried. Even scared for this man with warm eyes. He looked like he hadn’t faced the darkness of this world. Even in his broken state, instinct drove him toward an elder, as though salvation might still be found there. Easton's mind creaked back to life. Then his legs buckled, and he collapsed to the ground. His stare locked onto the carnage. His breathing grew frantic. Despite the bitter cold, sweat streamed down his forehead and froze at once into grains of ice. "A demon. He's not human. He's a demon! We only wanted his supplies, and he slaughtered dozens of our people!" Easton's eyes darted wildly as his words unraveled. At 70, he could not bear the weight of the truth. He teetered on the edge of collapse.
