I thought that tonight would end in whip lash bruises for me but it ended with a great meal. The cold night air hit me. Driven by the need for fresh air and a desperate attempt to burn off the confusing new energy, I stepped onto the cold granite of the private patio. The night breeze felt clean against my skin, and I tilted my head back, closing my eyes, seeking a moment of peace. That moment shattered when Alpha returned.

I should just let things be. A soft, giggling sound broke through my thoughts. I looked up to see Apollo sitting cross-legged on the rug, an audio picture book open in front of him. He was pressing the buttons on the side, making the book read out loud in a cheerful voice. “Sun!” the book announced. “The sun is bright in the sky!” Apollo clapped his little hands. “Sun!” he repeated, although his pronunciation was off. I forced a small smile. “That’s right, Apollo. Sun.”

I could have sworn Alessandro was about to kiss me again, but was interrupted by a knock on the door. He shut his eyes, and replied, "Come in " When the door opened, Liam his beta stepped in holding something. He handed it to Alessandro, and when he nodded his head, Liam began to walk away. As soon as the door was shut, Alessandro turned and looked at me again, then he handed me what Liam had brought to him. "What for?" "You should open it and see for yourself." I collected the document from Alessandro, and began to open it. As I took a long paper from it, I laid it down on my thighs to check what it was all about, but widened my eyes in shock as I read through it, and saw the names involved

The air thickened, pressing heavily into Adelaide’s lungs. “I want everything you have,” Apollo said, voice carrying effortlessly through the chamber. “Not what you think you should show. Not what you believe you can afford to lose.” His fingers curled slowly. A tiny motion, but the pit answered: the glow in the rock deepened, and the heat rearranged again, lining up behind him like soldiers. “I will not hold back.” A pause. Long enough for Adelaide’s heartbeat to catch on it. Long enough for Cael’s to do the same.

I had been so concentrated on the filthy things leaving Apollo’s mouth that I’d forgotten myself for a moment. I coughed, looking away quickly, desperate to snap myself out of the haze he’d put me in. My fingers curled on the desk. “Take it,” Apollo said. His voice was calm, but it wasn’t a suggestion. I reached for my phone with trembling hands. A single message lit up the screen. [We are still eating lunch right?] River. I looked at Apollo instinctively. He didn’t ask, but that knowing gaze told me he already knew exactly who it was.

Now he had become a spectacle. Apollo cleared his throat and then lay down on his back to them. He was increasingly squeezed by doubts. His loyalty was at stake. That night he could not sleep. His wolf howled through his thoughts. Thinking that Wilson was asleep, Apollo got up to do a night exercise. He jumped when he saw Wilson sitting down reading the strategy map. In his hand was a bar of chocolate. "Are you going?" asked Wilson casually. Apollo nodded nervously. "I will keep you company." “No need,” Apollo interrupted hastily.

His muscles toned, he looked as though he was moulded by the mother's own two hands—pure perfection. I forced my eyes to find him. His lips tugged up in the corner as he took me in. His perfect purple eyes, looking back at me. “Apollo, what are you doing here,” I asked, confused. Audra gripped my arm tightly. I looked back at her giving her a reassuring smile. Her grip loosened as she stepped back. I turned back to Apollo, finding him now in front of us. He reached his hand out and tucked a stray hair behind my ear. Apollo took several deep breaths before forcing himself to calm down. "Alpha, I want to apply to go to the Faron Continent for battle. I'll personally find Nora." The elderly Alpha looked worn and sorrowful. He let out a long sigh. "Poor Nora… I shall grant your wish, Beta. Go, bring her back yourself." Without hesitation, Apollo returned at once to pack his things and gathered his elite warriors to depart for the Faron Continent together. When Bella heard the news, she rushed over in a panic to stop him. "You can't go, Apollo! It's too dangerous! The Rogues could end up killing you!"
