It looked ordinary and carried no presence to it. “Let me see it” I said and took the book from him. Immediately our hands touched the book a sudden light erupted from it, striking Augustus and me. I felt a searing pain tear my body into two and for a moment, I could watch my body lying weakly on the floor. Elana said some chants and closed the book. It took great force and the pain increased by the minute. Slowly, my eyes closed, and I was welcomed into the darkness.
