My gaze landed on king Damien as he sat on a rocking chair, looking down at me with lust in his eyes. I gulped and tried looking elsewhere, suddenly feeling shy as his gaze pierced me.

"I'm Anne. This is Victor. Thanks for inviting us." I blinked. "Oh. Uh—yeah, of course." "Hello, I'm Aureliano Rivera," he said politely, offering a hand. Anne nudged Victor with her elbow and suddenly the monster next to her turned into Prince Fucking Charming. "Victor Blackwood," he said, flashing that politician smile that made people forget he was probably hiding a body somewhere. Aureliano tilted his head. "Blackwood? Was your father Francis Blackwood, by any chance?"

“Don’t speak.” He raised both hands slowly. “Wolf king, listen—” Wrong move. I lunged at him, swiping my claws at him. He vanished just as my claws slashed through the air where his throat had been. I turned fast, snapping my jaws at him, but he was gone again with inhuman speed. Viktor was an ancient vampire after all. “I don’t want to fight you,” Viktor said, his voice was calm and firm as he reappeared several feet away. “Aria is alive.”

Alaric’s men surged forward to intervene, but a sharp glance from him froze them in their tracks. “Stand back!” Alaric ordered. Viktor was feral. He was on top of Alaric, punching erratically, his knuckles splitting and painting Alaric’s pale face red. His eyes were no longer as I remembered; they were unstable as he fought with the desperation of a man who had already lost everything. For a heartbeat, it looked like Viktor was actually gaining control. He was landing hits that should have broken any normal man. But Alaric just smiled through the blood.

“I want to know every detail.” In the car, Viktor gives me a knowing look. “You’re in deep with her.” “What?” “Miss Sinclair. You’re in deep. He looks around the house and smirks, "It seems like you've got quite a generous…master." I don't know what he is trying to say beyond his words, but it's irritating me. "I haven't given it much thought," I say, but then I think about the baby growing inside of me and wonder what might happen if I were to tell Ronan.
