SERAPHINA The sound of metal clanging and wolves growling filled the air. Through the SUV's bulletproof windows, I could see Archer in his wolf form—a massive black wolf with amber eyes—fighting two wolves at once. Elena and Marcus had also shifted, forming a defensive perimeter around my vehicle. “Stay down, Luna!” Archer's voice echoed in the Pack's mind-link. “Reinforcements are coming!” But I could see they were overwhelmed. Fifteen against three warriors, even with Callista and Alex who had just joined from the second vehicle, the odds were still not good.

In the meantime, the werewolves are still busy peeking around the bushes. Ridge opens his palm up and waiting for the perfect timing to give out his command. As the werewolves growl and show their fang defensively, the Archduke smirks and directly orders, "Fire!" There was a tale passed through generations, reaching the 21st Century, about a group of werewolves’ special mutation that brings out dormant abilities from a family’s genetic line. They were said to be marked and blessed by the moon goddess for they were the first of her followers. They were given the title of Legacy Wolves, keeping up their tradition and passing on their special traits through their children.

He was an ass, so I didn’t particularly care what he had to say. “This is a direct violation of the accord agreement Harmon!” The Alpha of the Rugged Ridge Pack boasted. “Did you know about this Harmon?! This isn’t possible!” Alpha Warren of the Goldfang Pack questioned my father. Several male wolves close to the stage started sniffing the air around us, which made me curious so I started sniffing but couldn’t smell anything. Ares noticed me inhaling deeply, sniffing, and took a deep breath as well. He knew something was up. I looked at him, “What? What is it? I can’t smell anything.”

Alec takes a moment before telling me more. “There are more than just wolves there. The witch we are working with is mated to one of my guys. That’s how we know her and know that she’s reliable. We also have those that are just looking for sanctuary. My dad opened it up more after what happened with your dad all those years ago.” I didn’t really think about there being other mythicals in the pack. I know there are a lot more out there, but they don’t usually stand out as much as wolves do. It made me think about how many could be walking around right now and I couldn’t accurately tell.

Archer looked at me in surprise but nodded and hugged me to calm my nerves. Just then, three wolves appeared from deep in the forest. They were big, strong, and looked rabid. “It's them,” he said in disbelief. “It's the wolves from my vision.” Archer stepped in front of me defensively. “Run to the river; I'll distract them,” Archer said and it scared me. “If they do anything bad to you, I won't—” “Run, I'll be fine; I'm worried about you,” Archer said seriously. “Do it now!”

The frustration of his condition only fueled his determination to find a solution. After extensive research, the pack's doctor stumbled upon a potential remedy—a plant known to relieve the symptoms. However, there was a catch. This plant grew exclusively in a distant forest and had to be plucked under the cover of night. Knowing the gravity of the situation, Alpha Archie summoned his most trusted friend and assistant, Liam, who also held the position of a beta werewolf within the pack. Liam was not only well-acquainted with Archie's ailment but also familiar with the precise location of the elusive plant. The knowledge of their shared secret formed an unbreakable bond between them. "You really evolved into a Hybrid, Adams," the jet black haired wolf said as the yellow bead scanned every inch of the hybrid's body. "Yeah... Even though it annoys me to be different from the rest of you, I am relieved that my fur is much cleaner than the Alpha's." Archie was proud, despite the tightness that nearly engulfed him every time.

Archie's fur was black as midnight, with a streak of silver running down his spine, glinting even in the smoke from the car crash. He let out a growl, low and commanding. The other wolves snapped to attention, following his lead. From the treeline, shadows moved, too many to count. Archie bared his teeth. His alpha presence pulsed like a warning. This was no accident. This was an ambush. The third time in two weeks, but they were never this serious. He moved, fast, precise, deadly. One of the attackers lunged, and Archie met it head-on, jaws clamping around its throat. The wolf shrieked, then went limp.
