Ashes and Shadows Lucian Vance' s POV ​The third glass of Macallan didn’t burn anymore. It just sat in my stomach like liquid lead, heavy and useless, doing nothing to numb the phantom smell of burning oil that had been trapped in my nostrils for six months. ​Outside the floor tovceiling windows of my penthouse, the New York skyline stretched out in a grid of cold, mocking lights. Vance Global ran this city. Or at least, it used to. Right now, on the dark mahogany desk behind me, three phones were ringing simultaneously on silent, their screens blinking like desperate distress flares.

The city was deceptively calm. Natalie Evans stood on the rooftop of Phoenix HQ as twilight bled into the horizon. The battles they’d won against Orbis in the last seventy-two hours were hard-earned. (Damon's POV) The air reeked of smoke and blood. Ash clung to the boy’s skin as he huddled close to the fire, his eyes never straying far from the edge of the forest where Azrael had fallen, where the shadows no longer whispered but screamed. Dawn cracked like a blade across the sky. We didn’t speak of what happened last night. Of the executioner’s corpse buried beneath twisted roots. The wind scattered the ashes, and the rain soaked them, washing them away little by little amidst the flowing water. Sheila fell out of her wheelchair and hit the ground. He turned around to find Alexander being surrounded by the 7 remaining men as he raises both of his hands that held his gun as they pointed the gun at him.
