Annalise sat across from me, one leg crossed over the other, swirling the glass in her hand like she was trying to drown her nerves in amber. “She’s broken,” she said finally, voice low. “And Xavier’s breaking with her. You should be pleased. Isn’t this what you wanted? You can stand taller now. You need to drown yourself in drinks. Mind you, you don’t even need to keep roaming around her.”
