Smith asked, breaking through his thoughts as she flipped through the stack of personnel files on her surprisingly neat desk. Austin would never have expected such remarkable organisation from her because she always looked shabby and untidy whenever he saw her. Today's outfit, a two-piece woollen suit, was certainly from another era. But, it went well with the string of garish, fake pearls around her neck, her sturdy black no-nonsense shoes on her feet, and her oily perm puffed out around her longish face. The only accessory on her that was even remotely modern was a pair of clear, plastic-framed glasses through which she peered at him now.

“You want to believe in him, I understand that. I wanted to believe too… once.” Lucy shook her head, her throat tight. “You’re wrong. Austin loves me. He’s not using me. He’s protecting me.” Mrs. Bennett’s smile was small, sad, and devastating. “Then I truly hope you’re right, my darling. Because if you’re wrong…” she stepped closer, lowering her voice until it was barely above a whisper, “men like him protect their empire long after they stop protecting the woman who helped build it.” Lucy flinched, her breath catching.

The butler had announced their arrival, and we went out to greet them as they stepped out of the car. One by one, the six of them came out like gods and goddesses that owned every square inch of this house. There were four handsome men in suits and a girl, a very beautiful girl. She had black hair with grey highlights. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that she looked like the supermodel Serena, no wait, she was Serena. I was shocked, but I had to hide it. “The Vittelis, welcome to our humble abode”, my father smiled,, ah but where is the groom? And your parents? If I may”

Just then, the door, which had been left slightly ajar, swung open wider and Austin leaned against the frame, arms crossed, an unreadable expression on his face. He was dressed impeccably, as always, in dark, expensive looking clothes that made him look like some kind of predatory bird. “Is the girl learning to howl yet Miss Moreau?” he asked, his voice smooth and laced with that familiar, unsettling amusement. Rachel jumped, a little squeak escaping her. “Mr Thorne! Just getting started! Selena’s a bit shy, but we’ll get there!”

“Favorite novelist?” “Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice, before you ask.” “By God, boy!” he exclaimed in glee and clapped his hands. “We have a keeper with this one!” He turned to me again. “Second favorite?” I chewed my lip for a second. “Dickens or Louisa May Alcott. It’s tough, but Alcott might just win out. Her ability to create a whole cast of compelling, lovable characters – not just one or two – is something I’ve yet to find in another writer.”

Well, aren't you his fan? "Do you have something else in mind?" he asks in a normal tone of voice, ignoring my question. How rude! I scowl, but I’m hardly affected. "Um . . . Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen," I tell him. "Or maybe . . . Sense and Sensibility?" I contradict my own choices, and he smiles at it. "Is Jane Austen your favorite?" he asks, a sweet glow in his cool eyes. "If we're speaking of Classic romance, then yes, she's my favorite. I prefer happy ending than tragedies, and Jane Austen always grants my wish." I go dreamy; oblivious of whom I'm talking to.

"Who are you?" The lady just smiled again before answering. "My name is Annabelle, I'm your aunt. Can I come in?" My aunt?..... My aunt, like the good aunt Lily told me about? How did she find me?. Rachel was just looking at the lady with an opened mouth. "Hey Romeo" I snapped my fingers in her face. "Your jaw dropped" That had her shutting her Mouth and smiling. "I'm sorry for staring, it's just....you are really pretty ma'am. You look like you came down from heaven"

replied Ruri with a serious expression. "What?" "Miss Green wants Mr. Langit be honest." Langit were confused by Ruri's explanation. "Honest for what, auntie?" "Be honest, be honest that Mr. Langit interested in her. A hanging dress could be mossy, moreover the feelings" Ruri said dramatically. Since Langit and Cherry were eroding the distance between household assistant and the master, Ruri has tried to bond with both, one way to seduce Langit as she did this morning.
