Awaken Unscramble Novels & Stories

"How can we piece together what we don't even know?" Thea took a deep breath, her gaze drifting as if caught between worlds. "You will know when the next awakening is due. Until then, however… the answers you seek are hidden in shadows. You need to prepare for a journey through secrets and fragments that may at first seem insignificant. Each piece will reveal its importance over time, but it won't be obvious at the start." A heavy silence filled the room, anxiety weaving through us. "What comes next? How do we prepare?" Aaron asked, glancing between Thea and me, that warrior spirit shining in him.

I waited for the memory of Julian’s icy blue eyes and his predatory job offer to fade into the fog of a champagne-induced nightmare. It wasn’t real, I told myself, clutching the silk duvet to my chest. The job offer, the mention of Marcus, the way Julian looked at me like I was a prize to be stolen, just a dream. But then I saw it. On my bedside table, the glass award from the Harvard Business School sat catching the morning light, its edges sharp and undeniable. Beside it lay a heavy, charcoal-colored business card I didn't remember taking, but must have clutched in my hand like a lifeline.

His voice, which is normally resonant and wonderfully husky, is now guttural and strange. "Mine," he groans out again, then his face shifts. Literally. A muzzle starts to elongate out of his face. and I watch in frozen horror as his face morphs into that if a wolf. He opens his maw, and I scream. My eyes shoot open to Neela's face directly above mine. I let out a scream. She lets out her own scream. I let out another scream, and she screams again. "Girl, what is wrong with you?" I ask her, rubbing the bridge of my nose. I try to remember why I woke up screaming, but my mind is fuzzy.

Curled in Colton’s arms in bed, my head laid on his chest as I listen to that steady rhythm of his heartbeat, I doze in and out of peaceful and contented slumber. Something keeps waking me when I start to fall deeply, and I can’t seem to put my finger on it. Like a dream or a feeling that’s just out of sight and seems to jump in to haul me back whenever my consciousness drifts away. An unease or a threatening nightmare maybe, it’s definitely a sense of unease and try as I might, I can’t seem to fall into blissful darkness for any length of time. It’s almost dawn and I have barely dozed for more than twenty-minute slots at a time. I’m frustrated and exhausted, yet I can’t seem to rest.

The last minutes in which I would remain complete, with my Ember. I could feel that her end was soon; the sun that had never set in my dreams, not even once in all these years, was lowering itself to meet the flat line of the horizon. I breathed deeply as my heart clenched painfully. Many unsettling thoughts swirled into my mind. “Henry, what if I can’t wake up because I am not good at being awake? What if I don’t know how to do awake-things?” I thought out loud. Maybe my doubts about it were what was keeping me asleep and preventing Ember from healing. Maybe I was afraid? In the middle of this windwhirl of emotions, I didn’t know anything anymore.

Chapter 38 Alex's POV In the realm between dreams and reality, Alex slowly emerged from the depths of unconsciousness. The gradual return of sensation began with a tingling awareness in his fingers, like tendrils of life creeping up his limbs. A dull ache resonated through his head, as if his mind were struggling to break free from the shackles of slumber. As he fought against the weight of darkness, the world around him remained shrouded in obscurity. His breath came out in short pants, anything more would make one of his broken ribs puncture his lungs. Turning into a wolf was sheer agony for him, but it didn't hold a candle to the unearthly pain he was feeling on every part of his body.

“Nothing about this is normal.” Silence falls. Cane exhales slowly. “She’s closer than we thought,” he mutters. “Closer to what?” I snap. Gunnar’s eyes lock onto mine. “Awakening,” he says. The word sends a chill through me. “What does that even mean?” I whisper. “It means,” Caden says carefully, “that what you are has been sleeping for a long time.”

Alpha Lachlan has lowered his weapon and relaxed the muscles on his body as Beta Mellow tried to force the newborn to come out of its pretense. Blood. The smell of a fresh blood is irresistible on the newborns’ noses. It will awaken their instinct and compells them to shred its skin out of its pretense. I could never love a woman, otherwise no charm would ever work. I started laughing. I laughed so hard, it turned into sobs. They racked my entire being and when I was done, I lay back on my bed, exhausted. After awhile, I fell into a dreamless sleep. The shrill noise of my phone woke me up from a deep, dreamless slumber. I was confused for a bit and looked around, disoriented. Finally, my brain caught on and I picked up my phone. "Son, I'm on the run. Eyare is back in town. It's time to take over the throne, it's time, son.
