The Academy of The Ascendant - Book 1 Marked by Starlight

The Academy of The Ascendant - Book 1 Marked by Starlight

Instead, I said, “So what? More instructors? Another round of trials?” She shook her head. “No. I’m assigning you a personal tutor.” Something about the way she said it made the hair on my arms rise. “Who?” I asked. She smiled. It didn’t reach her eyes. The Tower of Shadows hadn’t been used in over a century. Its top floor had been sealed, warded with blood magic so old it was practically sentient. I felt it before I stepped through the door — that low hum of awareness, like the stone itself was watching me.

The Rogue Deity: Until Death Do Us Part

The Rogue Deity: Until Death Do Us Part

Bellinor looked at Alinta and said with a gentle hum, "Go on, open it, my love.” Alinta carefully opened the heavy door and went in. Upon entering, she halted in position at the sight before her. She placed her trembling hands over her open mouth as tears formed in her disbelieving eyes. She stood at the base of a four-story tower, its walls decorated with books of all shapes and sizes; long cathedral-like stained-glass windows decorated the walls, and a beautiful wooden spiral staircase was in the middle of the structure. Each floor had a beautiful faint couch close to a window so that Alinta could look outside and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Bellinor’s vast estate.

I told Rowan. "Look!" Selene pointed ahead. In the middle of the white storm, something was rising. It wasn't a tree or a house. It was a massive, black **Tower** made of millions of stacked books. It reached so high into the white that the top was lost in the glare.

“Yes sir!” the men replied. Once more, Zephyr laid his eyes on the books, his gaze rested on one of them. The book was covered in a layer of dust and was made of bamboo. It looked unique. “Thunderfoot?” Zephyr muttered as he opened the book, reading its contents. A wave of excitement washed over him. He excitedly flipped through the pages, carefully memorizing the technique’s intricate steps.

Enjoying the book tremendously, the characters names and even the tone of the author changed in the last 1/3 of the book was a bit confusing but was able to adjust to the changes the plot is definitely engaging and keeps you pushing to see how it all plays out for Zepher but it seem to abruptly?

Stronger United Together

Stronger United Together

, I state. The witch looks up at me, feeling slightly uncomfortable as I feel her look through my mind. Not long after, it pushed her out. She glares at me, which releases in me, shrugging my shoulders; she lets out a sigh before disappearing. Scanning the room, I noticed something moving, so I headed towards it; it’s a baby rosy boa, they’re one of the few viviparous, so they give birth and not lay eggs. Gently petting its head as I walk back to the seat, the baby boa curls up around my neck to get the heat that’s coming from my body; the witch comes back with two books. Raising an eyebrow, she passes the books over and then starts explaining. “The first book is about Reda Bahar Phoenix lik

Spell Bound

Spell Bound

Belle sat up in bed, using the buttons on the side to adjust the positioning as the nurse had shown her. The book, white with a pentacle on the cover, described the basics of witchcraft in terms even a layman could understand. Her older sister had been kind enough to drop it off, along with a change of clothing and a box of Thornton's continental—her favourite chocolates. According to this book, the spell Damien cast on her would be returned to him threefold.

I was quite surprised by this book. I tried reading it before but lost interest in it. I picked it back up yesterday and just finished it. I have to say, I'm quite impressed. I have read all but one of your books and you are a great writer. Thank you.
Nicci
This is the fourth book I've read by you, in as many days. This one is different from the others. I like it and look forward to Damien coming out. I'm going to be sad tomorrow when I, hopefully, finish the other two books you have on this app.

Grace asks. “OMG YOU TOO?!” Jamie is shrieking with excitement now. “Grace I’m not surprised at, what with the fact that your parents have practically tried to raise you Amish, but Zee? C’mon, your parents own a frikkin’ video store. Zoolander’s like, the king of VHS movies. Ashling, tell me you’ve at least seen it.” I nod my head, already knowing where this is going. “I need to use your laptop Ashling,” Jamie says. “We’re taking a trip to the Pirate Bay.”

Frequently Asked Questions

The 'Babel' series was penned by R.F. Kuang, a writer who’s become one of my recent favorites for her razor-sharp prose and gut-punch themes. I stumbled onto 'Babel' after devouring her 'Poppy War' trilogy, and wow—the way she blends historical fiction with dark academia and linguistic magic is just chef’s kiss. Kuang’s background in translation studies totally shines through; every footnote feels like a mini-lecture, but in the best way possible.

What really hooked me, though, was how she tackles colonialism through language itself. The book’s premise—where translation powers an empire—is genius, but it’s her characters’ messy, morally gray struggles that stick with you. I finished it last summer and still catch myself ranting to friends about that heartbreaking finale. If you haven’t read her work yet, clear your weekend—you’ll need it.
