The word was new to him. “A babysitter is someone who takes care of small babies,” she explained softly, brushing his hair away from his forehead. He listened carefully, processing the idea, but the slight crease between his brows remained. “Mamma, are you going to leave me alone?” he asked quietly, the fear hidden beneath his simple question. Her heart tightened at that. She knelt down to his level and shook her head firmly.

All the way from Scotland to Brooklyn is a bit over ten hours so by the time they arrive, it's night time already.
