Her days were peaceful and content. Her old boss, Liam Wharton, was always coming by the shop to help. I was young, but I could see clearly. Liam liked my mom. But my mom would get serious and pinch my cheek. "You're just a kid. Don't say things like that." I didn't agree with her. In my eyes, Liam was the best person in the whole world. When my mom first went to him for help, he was shocked. She had supposedly died years ago. And now she was back, with a daughter out of nowhere.

Marty put his arm around her shoulders as her mother reached over for her hand. “You just have to have faith he’ll come home safely,” Marty told her. “And when he does, you two need to talk. That’s the only way you’re going to know if what you witnessed is what it seemed to be.”

I push his hands away, choosing to take my seat on the other side of the table instead. “What do you want, Marty?” I glare at him. Marty shrugs and goes back to his seat where a tray with two glasses of water lay before him.
