I shoved our clothes into the satchel, slid the folded schoolbooks into the gaps, and tucked the snacks I had hidden away… two packets of biscuits, a small bottle of groundnuts, and the bread roll I had bought earlier, into their hands. “Eat these now,” I whispered. “Keep quiet. Don’t cry, Heather, please. She’ll hear us.”
Heather tried to swallow her sobs, her voice breaking. “She’ll find us, Elena… she always finds us…”
