CHAPTER TWENTY THREE TORIA’S POV I hated goodbyes. Not because they were emotional, not because they are pretentious, but because they are unnecessary. I mean there was always someone crying, someone giving an annoying speech. Or somebody acting as if you were being deployed for war, meanwhile you’re just leaving for a couple weeks. It’s just something about this that gave me the ick. Why do humans show lots of emotions for people that may or might not actually give a fuck about them? It’s quite absurd.

“How bad was the day?” Olivia considered. “Scale of one to ten?” “Sure.” “Jack.” Tessa didn’t hesitate. “We’ll take six. To start.” The waiter nodded and disappeared. “Love that for us,” Isabella said, adjusting her bracelet. The shots arrived quickly. Clear liquid in neat little glasses, lime wedges on a small plate beside them. They didn’t wait. Glasses clinked. “To bad decisions,” Tessa declared. “To better ones,” Isabella corrected.

Conrad gulped as he struggled to finish his words. “… The badges have been destroyed. As such, we can’t track them down.” While the Royal Badges were far from delicate, they also weren’t the most durable objects known to exist. ‘They’re not items that can be broken accidentally. Probably because that person tipped too much, and they don’t want to offend a big spender.” Carl’s voice was unhurried. “Isn’t getting tipped a good thing?” “It is, but being tied down like this… I’m not used to it.” Amelia was particularly bothered by the badge—it had two little hearts and even displayed an increasing intimacy score. Carl seemed to be in deep thought. After a long pause, he let out a slow chuckle. “That’s not something I can bring up.” Well, that made sense. Asking him to tell that Mr. Jenkins to remove the Guardian badge was indeed a bit unreasonable.

Kai's face instantly flushed with rage, and he completely lost it. "Eliza, you ungrateful wretch! If it weren't the company, you wouldn't be where you are today! I don't need your lousy code anyway! I'll put out a ten-million reward. Someone will solve it. Just you wait. Whatever company you join, I'll force it into bankruptcy!" Touching the new badge in my pocket, I smiled and said, "We'll see about that." Everything was over, so Kai didn't try to stop me again.
