Behind The Mask
I lifted it slowly and tied the silken rope behind my head.
“Welcome, Beta,” Mr. Everhart declared, his voice ringing across the chamber. “Daughter of the Alpha of the Order of Obsidian.”
As he spoke, everyone in the hall bowed, every masked face, every hidden identity. The sound of rustling fabric filled the air like a chorus of ghosts.
A woman stepped forward from the crowd, her mask silver and her tag engraved Gamma. “I’m glad you’ve finally joined us,” she said, her tone smooth but edgy.
