I said, bowing slightly. “Good morning, Mr Cross,” she replied, adjusting her glasses. She nodded toward the room. “Today’s detention isn’t just sitting around. You and Mr. Baxter—” she gestured toward Xane, who was already seated by the window “—will pick a book from the shelf, read at least two chapters silently, then take turns summarizing it for me before the bell rings. This left her wondering why all the books, and information they found on Oscuras, were always either in black on dark green, but she swallowed her question.
