Banned Books Novels & Stories

Kade calls from across the library. "Nothing in particular." But I reach for another romance, one with a black and gold spine and a more risque title. The sight of the cover lifts the hair on the back of my neck and causes heat to billow down my spine. "There are illegal books in here." "Illegal?" "Explicit sex…" I clarify. "Erotica."

She smiled, placing her hands on her waist. "Really? there's a library? Yes!" I clenched my right fist frantically in the air, excitement written all over me. Back at home, A Library was an abomination. I guess I forgot to mention there was a rule about books also? Well, here it goes. Eric had concluded that books lie. He had this ludicrous theory that books trap people. He said it's similar to a disease, a terrible sickness that has no cure. Makes humans rapted in an imaginary world, completely forgetting what reality brings.

“Yes. Now tell me, just briefly, what all you’ve read.” “I have a cousin who is a professor of archaeology, another that is a professor of American literature and an aunt who teaches classic literature. There’s also an aunt who teaches ASL, an uncle who gives me an allowance on how many pages I read and another who is the dean over library sciences.” “Well, damn. What have you not read?” “Honestly, not much. Uncle Nate always recommends banned books. I get ten cents per page from my Uncle Owen, so I love the really thick books. And Cheryl pushes the history books.”

My hand drifts toward one of the volumes. The title alone makes me draw back. The History of Witches and Warlocks. I nearly drop it. Such books are forbidden within these walls, condemned as dangerous, heretical. Even Father, stern though he was, would never have permitted one in his library. How then is it here, in the attic, with others like it? For when I look again, I see more titles lined along the shelf and strewn upon the table. The Book of Spells and Witchcraft. Witches and Courts: The Battle. Battle of Magic. Witches and Their Origin.

Samantha In all my years of owning a publishing company, I've read countless books about taboo themes. From reverse harem, erotica, age gap, incest, mafia romance, dark romance, and all the hardcore topics. I realised that, in New York, people shunned books like these, and they made sure to shut them down before they got to the public eye. I built my company to give people a chance to see through their creative imagination, no matter how dark it is. There are people who actually like reading books like these. They are invested in them too; hence, they need their fix.

"Can we borrow or take the books home?" "Stop playing games, youngster. We are about to finish." The man spits angrily. He examined the book on the table. "The Beast King? You may find more recent editions of books on any bookshelf, this one is out of date." "Recent ones?" I have my doubts. I could instantly understand why this book had been classed as out of date. Most likely, those at the top did not want everyone to come into contact with such information. The majority of people nowadays have only heard about demons. They are unaware of how frightening they were. To avoid public uproar, literature containing specifics concerning demons was banned.

"You don't have anything to say?" Rosalind shrugged finally, her words coming out casually. "Fine. I went to the library and I ended up looking at a book. What is the big deal?" What was the big deal? Was she kidding me? Sacrilegious texts like these had been banned and it took common sense to know that when one was a royal, the person was under far more scrutiny than an average person. I bit out my words almost harshly. "You are a Princess now. The council wants you ousted, the last types of books you should be reading are books that spread rogue propaganda."

The first page of words and phrases were listed with small boxes of text beneath each listing, giving a reason as to why the particular word or phrase should be avoided. 'Can't say "damn it" anymore, guess that makes sense. Can't say the name of any religious figures, understandable. There's "guns" in big bolded text. I shouldn't say "dog"? What is a "Lycan" supposed to be? Page fifty-three for Lycans. Oh, werewolves. Also shouldn't use the term werewolf.' Elijah kept reading through the list fascinated by the extent of the guide's information. About two hours had passed. Elijah had read through most of the banned words and sayings and was getting ready to check the bestiary.

Cuffe asked, imagining that some of these volumes would be of very sensitive nature. "The recovered books were screened by all Professors and the subjects were separated into categories specific to the students' ages. For example, a first year student doesn't have access anymore to a book with NEWT material. Dangerous materials are now kept in a VERY restricted section, and the books in it can't be removed from there and are only for local research. And finally, outlawed material is only available to Professors with Mastery in their subjects." Selena explained in more detail, putting Mr. Cuffe's doubts at ease.

“ It’s nothing. Just a library book I checked out. By accident. Just a silly mistake.“ Now that was the understatement of the century. “A silly mistake, my behind,” Edith cackled. “The Kama Sutra. The Joy of Sex. Dating for Dummies. The Multi-Orgasmic Couple. The Girlfriend's Guide to Great Sex.” Edith pointed to each of the books as she listed off the titles. Picking up the books, Mattie said, “This is my business. My personal, private business.” “Poppycock.” Edith stood, hands on her generous hips, blocking the door. “If you wanted this to be private, you wouldn’t have brought those books here.“
