Barry opens his mouth wide, holding his belly as his laughter roars through the house.
“I like you,” he grins, his square teeth taking up most of his face as he wipes tears from his eyes. “You play poker?”
“Sometimes,” I shrug.
“After we find your girl, come back. We can hang. Just don’t bring him,” he glares at his brother. “He’s an ass.”
We clink beers while Gideon’s face turns red and Evander tries to suppress a smile.
“I’ll call Sue. She’ll get the crew searching,” Barry heads to his kitchen where he has an old-fashioned landline secured to a wall by a cord. He lives so far off the grid, so deep in the trees that cell phones don’t work out here.
