Every time she heard a car outside, she would run toward the window, hoping it was him. The next morning, Damian woke up with a horrible backache. “Shit, it hurts,” he mumbled before getting up from the chair. He used the spare keys the professor left him and slept inside the small studio. He had nowhere to go. He didn't have another house and he couldn't go to Elias'. He didn't want to be the cockblock between him and his girlfriend. Damian arranged his stuff and left the studio. He headed to the bathroom to wash his face, then he left to the cafeteria to have breakfast.

Damian whispered into my hair, voice low enough to stir my skin: “Vivian… don’t scare me like this again.” His hand tightened gently around mine. “Promise me.” I opened my mouth to respond, but my eyelids were already heavy, sleep tugging me under. Damian's POV When Damian pushed open the door of the abandoned warehouse by the docks, he saw only Scarlett sitting on a rusted oil barrel. There were no Blackwater wolves and no ambush. There was only a shallow cut on her leg. Damian immediately understood that Scarlett had faked the attack to lure him there. Anger surged through him, sharp enough to make his wolf stir beneath his skin. But when Scarlett pressed her soft body against him, that anger weakened slightly. Scarlett lifted her wrist with red-rimmed eyes. A fresh cut stood out against her pale skin.

Damian said flatly, "Take us to them." They brought them to the room where I was waiting. I was pulling my hospital coat tighter, still pale. I looked up when the door opened. Damian walked in. He stopped. His eyes went wide. I met his gaze and smiled, thin and colorless. "I don't want money." "I want his life in exchange." "Or he could give me my baby back."
