Goodness me!” Damian heaved a deep sigh as he leaned back against his chair and kept his gaze on his laptop. “Where could you be, little rabbit? Did you not know running away when no fire has been lit is foolish? Tsk, I guess I need to set fire to your home in other to bring you out.” His eyes blinked severally and became still as he stared blankly ahead.

” Damian ~”The only idiot around here is the one behind your nose. You don’t get to breathe after touching what’s mine.” Then, with a sudden growl, he extended his claws. “No—Damian, stop!” I screamed, my voice cracking as I lurched forward. But it was too late. In one swift motion, Damian plunged his hand into Branson’s chest. Branson’s body jerked once—twice—then stilled as Damian ripped out his heart.

This was good news. I sent Morgana a quick text, wanting to know more about him. Turns out that Damien attended elementary school with us but I couldn't place his face. Duty calls me though and despite me wanting to stay with Abyss and Obsidian I must shift back to confer with my father and my beta. That's where I find myself now, in my home office with my dad and Lucas. Lucas is hands on, holding me close, slapping my back as he greets me. "It's so good to have you back," he tells me but then his face changes alerting me to something that's obviously dire and needs speaking about. I don't have to wait, his words grace my ears only seconds later. "There's a problem," he starts, walking over to sit on the chair he often sits in. "Damian's gone crazy, searching every pack south of Canada for his mate. Apparently she's a newborn," he tells me.

“You’ll be eaten alive before you even leave this building.” My breath caught. His words made too much sense, but my heart was in chaos. I shoved at him anyway, voice breaking. “You don’t know my father. He doesn’t deserve this.” Damian studied me for a long, unbearable moment. Then, as if making some silent decision, his grip softened. His thumb brushed my jaw in a way that contradicted every ounce of his ruthlessness. “Your father’s life isn’t my concern,” he said at last. “But you… you’ve made yourself mine tonight.”

The name hung in the air between us, toxic and sharp. Damian let out a long, weary sigh. He looked down at his hands large, capable hands that I used to dream would hold me. Damien’s shadow fell over me as he crouched slightly, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “Don’t look, little flame,” he murmured, the words gentle despite the tension in his tone. “You don’t need to see this.” The trapdoors fell with a sickening thud. My father, my mother, my brother—gone. A scream tore from my throat, raw and uncontrollable. I collapsed to the ground, my legs giving out beneath me. I didn’t need to see it; the sound alone was enough to shatter what was left of my heart.
