Playing with the Enemy
I shot out from both ends: the back, where he was, and the front, which had finally been triggered by the hot, large rod that rammed into me.
He pounded me, and I shuddered, trembling as I went higher than I ever had in my life.
My vision blurred, but I fought back. I shifted my head down, over the humping shoulder, I stared at the pierced dragon.
He was smiling. His eyes were fading, but he was well and truly smiling. At me. He had won. I had burst first.
I was broken.
My gaze shifted to the first of us who had fallen. His empty, pale eyes stared back from a still form.
