You can tell me anything,' I say, projecting comfort through our bond. 'Nothing’s wrong Jennifer, it’s just… that’s not why you’ve been so hungry the last couple of days…' says Beatrix as her voice trails off. 'It’s not?' I ask in confusion, 'Is it you who’s hungry?' She shakes her big blonde head softly at me, 'No, Chickpea. You’re hungry because of the pup you’re growing,' she says gently.

I was here to challenge that belief. "Bundy was so egoistic that his pride was hurt by strong women," he chuckled, his dark eyes meeting mine. I shouldn't have been sitting there, let alone feeling any sort of attraction towards the man who made my high school years a nightmare. But here I was, stirring in a third packet of sugar into my espresso, trying to sweeten the bitterness of the conversation. "Yet, there's an old proverb, isn't there? In that moment of terror, I realized that Zach had given them to Zayla. "Come on, Joey. Zayla's just curious about the animals. She's pregnant, so be more patient with her. Besides, most of the animals are gentle. It's not like she'll go near the dangerous ones."

I don't even know what they are." What an honor! For this bright shining moment, I found myself wishing I had Celie's mouth. I mean, what had she done for me? Aside from dating both of my best friends?
