He was so close I could smell expensive tobacco, rain, and a raw, heavy musk that made my pulse hammer in my throat. "I'm Franco," he murmured, his gaze dropping to my mouth. "And I think Lyle just made the biggest mistake of his pathetic life. He thinks he broke you. I think he just let you off the leash." The heat radiating off his body was a physical weight. I had just lost my husband, but standing this close to Franco, the only thing I felt was a sudden, violent ache between my thighs. He held out a heavy, matte black invitation. "The Apex Bloom. It's a survival game for the elite. The prize is a billion pounds. But it doesn't reward beauty, Lolita. It rewards the hunger of a woman who h

I’ve always understood what the others got out of making me feel repulsive—no one’s pretty if no one’s ugly—but why did I refuse to believe the evidence right in front of me that I’m not? I don’t know, and I don’t know whether I should feel happy or stupid or excited or heartbroken now. So I keep moving furniture with my head down, and Alec leans against a wall, content to watch as he chomps an apple he dug out of his pocket, until Bevan strolls in, holding up full grocery bags in each hand, hollering, “Guess what I got!” Immediately, a buzz erupts amongst the elders. I’ve already learned that he could have anything, but it’s bound to be good. Once, he showed up in the middle of dinner rolli

The worst part was when my name got out, they started printing articles in my name. BRIAN AND NURSE STEPHANIE'S ROMANTIC SCANDAL. Beck was my biggest support during this time, he'd often come over, with a chocolate biscoff cheesecake, or some Nutella cookies and suddenly my evening would become a whole lot better. This evening too he brought banana bread and he also came in carrying some tulips inside. “Wow, we've upgraded from just desserts, to desserts and flowers today. Is it a special occasion?”

The last time I saw her she was sitting in the snow, injured, looking straight at my inhuman eyes while I bled into Noah's hands. She stopped screaming to look. I've thought about that more than I've thought about being shot. "Hey." "Hi. It's Bex. Obviously. I just wanted to let you know something. I don’t know exactly what you are, and I've decided I don't care. You're my friend, and you and Noah saved my life. I don’t believe you’re dangerous. And as soon as you’ve rebuilt the gym, I’ll be back. At the place I’m using now the owner isn’t constantly staring at his boyfriend and drooling. It’s boring."

Bea felt proud. “Wow, girl. You just had your heart broken but you immediately found a handsome man to replace your bastard ex, huh?” Brix said in a sarcastic tone as he was glaring at one of the pictures. It was the picture where Callum pulled her closer and she was in shock. “Was he a nice man?” Her father teased. “Papa!” Bea whined as she glared at them. How could they just tease her after she cried her heart out? “Why are you reacting that way? Did you happen to grow closer to the guy in the span of one week?” Ben asked Bea. This time, there was no hint of teasing in his voice.

I had no choice but to do this job so I just did my daily routine and did as was told and cookd what Brian loved. I walked with a tray in my hands of a chicken salad I had made with a glass of lemonade since it was kinda hot outside today and I knew Brian must be a bit warm in his room. So I wanted to make him something cool and refreshing to drink and eat. I took a deep breath in before knocking and then coming in but no guards or nursers were with me this time. I guess they all got tired of this bull shit as I was. I came in to find Brian sitting on his bed smiling at me.

“Once.” Beverly moved then. She stepped away from the others, red eyes fixed on me, her smile crawling wider with every step. The wrongness around her seemed stronger now that she was closer. She looked mostly like Beverly still, and maybe that made it worse. Her beautiful face remained. Her golden hair remained. Her familiar cruelty remained. But under it all was something rotten. Something poured into a shape it did not truly fit. She smelled wrong. Not like wolf. Not like dragon. Not even like death. Like something death had touched and refused to take back.

“I’m too busy living my fantasy.” “So am I,” Selena said with a grin. “Okay, I’ll write solo. I’ve been doing that for the past two and a half years anyway,” Beverly said. “Matter of fact, it’s time for me to write another manuscript – a romance.” “I’m sure it will be juicy knowing you,” Joanna said. “And filled with all kinds of naughty things,” Selena said with a mischievous smirk. “You know it,” Beverly said with a big smile. The black woman, a friend of Beverly’s from the Bronx, named Deronda approached them. “Bev, you’re Pops is hot,” she said without shame.
