Nevea grinned at Raven. Raven was human too. They bonded during their time in the academy. Like her, Raven had a hard time adjusting to the intense pressure to kill for life. Nevea remembered that both of them froze on the spot during their first kill and then dropped to the ground to cry. As time passed and seasons changed, they grew braver. However, Raven was softer-hearted than her. That was why Nevea was drawn to him. The kindness in him made her want to be infected by it. With Raven, she felt that the angel had not left her side.

A mammoth of strength and wickedness that opened the bullet of his large jaws to bellow waves of rage toward me as I sprinted to meet him, slapping his disciples out of the way like they were all but flies in my salad. Thoughts of my best friend, the golden fuzz of his hair, the way he always had a comeback and a half ready for every affront, and the gleam of his brilliant smile that I would never see again swirled in my head as I jumped, flying over the heads of the beast’s minions. I let out a small breath I had been holding and debate whether or not to mind link Maddox. If there’s a chance Maddox is apart of this then he won’t save me and instead would make things worse. What the hell were they talking about? “I swear I don’t know anything,” I whispered desperately. “I don’t even know who Ravens is.” One of the men barked out a laugh. “Damn. She really clueless.” “Not our fucking problem,” another muttered. The gun pressed harder into my skin and my breathing immediately turned shaky again. “You hear that, Ravens?” the man said into the phone. “Fourteen hours before we paint the floor with her brains.”

Ronan didn’t hesitate. His body cracked and bent, the shift overtaking him in one fluid, violent motion. His skin split open like a second birth, revealing the beast beneath—taller than any normal wolf, monstrous and terrifying with fur black as midnight, hooked claws, demon horns, and glowing eyes that promised death. His roar shattered the forest. The first rogue sprinted straight at him, thinking brute force would be enough. It wasn’t. Ronan met him mid-leap, caught his skull between his jaws, and crushed it like an overripe melon. Blood sprayed across the snow in a thick arc as he tossed the corpse aside with a flick of his neck.
