There was no escape from him, no escape from this life.
I turned the TV off quickly, but the silence that followed felt like a heavy weight pressing against my chest. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t breathe. And then, Brax’s voice. Louder now. Angrier. Closer. His screams rumbled through the walls, mixing with the sound of his destruction. He was in a rage. And all I could do was sit here, paralysed by the fear of what would happen next.
The phone rang again.
I threw it on the bed, turning away, trying to block it out. The sound of the ringing, the yelling—it was all becoming too much. My ears were filled with noise, with chaos, with the screams of everything crashing down around me.
