17. Neon Oasis << . Riley. >> The bus pulls to a stop in front of the Dorm building. I grab my bag and make my way down the narrow aisle. I need to take a bath as soon as I reach my room. It’s Friday evening, and I babysat a 4-year-old who literally peed on my clothes. Yikes. Why do such things happen to me? Not even once, Natalie complained about anything like this. He told me a little too late while we were watching tv. I rushed him to the bathroom and… it happened.

In the middle of the night, if he wet the bed, he would immediately wake up and run back to his own room. During that period of time, Leighton would always wake up with a puddle in his bed. The adults in the family thought that there was something wrong with him and even brought him to see a doctor. It left him thinking that he had some kind of medical issue that led him to wet the bed even in his high school years. It was not until one night, he woke up from a dream and found his little brother sleeping stark naked on his bed. He wanted to wake the little brat up, but then he realized that Noah was already wetting the bed.

I deserved to know what I was getting myself into. I must have fallen asleep at some point during the long story because I awoke in my bed with the covers splayed over me; I only woke up this early… 8.15am according to my alarm clock because of a strong kick in my bladder and the frantic need to pee. I do love my son but his kicks are so strong; I worry that one of these days his kicks may cause me to wet myself! That would be beyond embarrassing! Something I would never ever live down.

Back then, I told myself they were just like family, so there was no need to get jealous. However, all those little signs I had ignored played back in my head, over and over. When she came back, we launched our design studio. I landed a whale of a client, a deal that put us on the map overnight. On the night of our big bash, I had one too many and wanted her to pick me up. I called over and over, but got nothing. Finally, a coworker ended up driving me home. The morning after, she came to me with puffy, red eyes, spilling the story of how Yoel was heartbroken, how he had drowned his sorrows in booze at the bar, and how she had stayed with him through the night.

Two weeks had passed since Celeste was supposed to go to America, but something came up, and she had to stay behind in England to sort out some personal stuff with her son. DJ was almost seven, and he still wets the bed, so his pediatrician wanted him to stay back for a few more weeks so that they could run some tests on him to see what was the issue. Bed-wetting had never been a problem in her family, so she figured he must have gotten it from Dominic's side since the doctors believe it may be hereditary.
