The child’s word still echoed inside me: Begin. Dorian’s hand brushed mine. Neither of us spoke. The universe was already listening. The vision had crossed into flesh. We’d pushed it back. And now, somewhere between mercy and consequence, creation itself was counting down. I looked east, where dawnlight shimmered in the wrong colours silver and violet intertwined. I reached out and touched its head, and I felt a surge of energy flow through me. I closed my eyes, and I saw a vision. I saw a time long ago, when wolves and humans lived together as one. I saw a time of peace and balance, a time when the world was in harmony. And then, the vision shifted. I saw a time of great change, when the world was out of balance. I saw a time of war and destruction, a time when wolves and humans were no longer one. I saw a time when the last wolf stood alone, the last remnant of the old ways. And then, I saw myself. I saw myself standing with the last wolf, and I knew what I had to do.

Maybe when I had a better grasp on this vision thing. At first, slipping into the visions was challenging. I think my fear of being thrust back into the vision where I was pregnant and battered held me back. But slowly, through trial and error and a lot of patience, I discovered that allowing myself to relax and let go was the key. The more I practiced, the easier it became to access these visions. I decided to focus on the visions of the past, or 'memories' as I began to call them, first, wanting to understand if there was any kind of pattern or reason for the ones I was seeing or if they were just random.

Third Person POV (Ruby). Ruby usually knew when she was having a vision the moment she opened her eyes. The more visions she had, the more obvious it became. They were like standing in the center of a TV, watching as events unfold before her eyes and she’s unable to do anything about them during the moment. She’s never stagnant in her visions; she’s learned in her second vision that she’s able to move around easily and explore the area a bit before she wakes up. She’s able to ask questions and get as much information as she can during the time she’s allowed.
