CHAPTER TWELVE The corridor fell into a heavy silence. Marliee stood at the front, the Hale elders flanking her like silent judges. Their gazes pressed down on Ember—sharp and cold—as though they had already decided her crime before she even spoke. Ember leaned casually against the doorframe, arms crossed, her eyes calm, almost amused. “Well?” she asked lightly. “Did the Blood Moon Pack suddenly start holding midnight trials?” One of the elders scoffed. “Watch your tone, Ember Valen.”
