The soft groan of wood rang out in the quiet bookstore as Lena turned over the last sign on the door: **CLOSED**. Outside, the city drew a breath, illuminated by amber streetlights and the quiet rumble of passing cars. Within, the world held its breath. Warm. Intimate. Holy.

However, Max had claimed he would be spending late nights with industry leaders, and it might be awkward for me to share a room. Since the main hotel was fully booked, I reluctantly went to another one, even though it was inconvenient and almost made me late for the event. Thinking back clearly, what kind of idiot would deliberately book two people from the same company in different hotels? It had all been part of her scheme. Alas, I was stupid enough to believe Max's excuse about needing to have late-night discussions with industry leaders. It was almost laughable.

"Shut those damn doors!" And I heard the doors closing behind me.

I tilted my head, giving a small nod. Kyle reached out and pressed the spine of a blue book. It shifted. Slide inward. A soft, mechanical click followed, and the entire bookshelf trembled before slowly pulling away—revealing a hidden door concealed behind it. My breath caught. Kyle stepped closer, gripping the golden doorknob. He twisted it twice in opposite directions. Click. The sound echoed softly in the stillness. Then, with a long, creaking sigh— the door opened. My jaw fell open the moment I stepped inside.

Taking one last look behind me, and finding no one has entered the room, I hurry over and take the book off the shelf. I’m rewarded with a strange noise that startles me at first even though I’m half expecting it—the door opens. It’s only open a crack, so I put my fingers in and pull it just enough to slide through. Luckily, there’s a handle on the inside of the door, so I pull it all the way closed behind me.

My pulse quickened each time I passed a closed door, half-expecting someone to step out and catch me in my midnight excursion. The double doors loomed before me like the gates to some forbidden realm. Slowly, I pushed one open, wincing at the groan of the hinges. Peeking inside, I let out a sigh of relief when I saw it was empty. The dim moonlight streaming through the tall windows gave the room an ethereal glow, highlighting the towering bookshelves that seemed to stretch endlessly. Closing the door softly behind me, I moved deeper into the room. My fingers brushed against the spines of countless books as I walked along the shelves. Somewhere in here, there had to be a clue, a record, anyth

It made a loud click. Slowly, she pushed the door open. The office was dark, lit only by the dying orange glow of the fireplace. Papers were messy on the floor, and the air smelled like smoke. "Where is it?" I whispered as we slipped inside. "Behind the books," Lisa said. She walked over to a huge wooden bookshelf. She touched the side of a leather book and pulled it. The bookshelf made a loud grinding noise and slid sideways. Behind it was a heavy metal vault door. There was no keyhole—just a flat, smooth piece of black stone.

Stopping her pacing, Althea turns to us, “Come with me, I want to show you something. It’s time.” There was still so much I wanted to ask and craved to know. Tawny and I followed her as she led us to the back of the room and pulled at a book from a bookcase that covered the entirety of the wall. The book fell back into its place, a loud creek and groan came from the bookcase and a puff of air sounded as the bookcase opened and revealed a hidden door. “That’s some neat shit,” Tawny whispered up at me. And I had to agree, it was pretty cool. I would never have known the hidden doorway existed, even if I was looking for it.

As soon as they turned and left the room, the book closes back by itself, and the book cover reads; 'THE BOOK OF SHADOWS' and then the book disappears. . . .++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hope you guys enjoyed this episode.
