Three bedrooms, a bathroom, and then double doors at the end of a large walkway. I open the double doors and my mouth drops open. A parents’ retreat, a lounge area that opens onto a large bedroom, with its own bathroom and a walk in closet. Double doors open to a balcony that looks out onto the street. Windows and expensive drapes are on every wall. It’s slightly dated, but hell, it’s the best damn house I have ever seen. I beam at the sound of Owen’s squeals of delight. “This room, I want this room!” he calls.

We walked past a lane with houses on either side, the side of Valeras where normal wolven families lived. Somehow, we’d avoided the guards that patrolled the grounds by this time. Dragging the dead weight on my back, we stopped in front of a small house with just one window beside a wooden door. It resembled a small hut, just like most of the houses on this side of Valeras. I lifted my fists to the door and knocked on it. “Are you sure Oliver?” Keyleth reached for my arm, dragging my eyes to hers. My lips parted to speak when a rattle came from behind the door and the handle twisted, revealing a male that looked to be in his late twenties.

Grabbing the little gift for Nicholas and his parents, I head out. We reach Elizabeth and Robert Vesnitsky’s residence fairly quickly. Ahead of me stands a beautiful two-story house with a spacious, elegant veranda. A neatly kept lawn stretches around it, and in the back, there’s a lovely garden with a pool. There’s even a playground and a treehouse for Nicholas. Beyond the property lies a wide stretch of forest — perfect for grown werewolves to let their second selves roam free. The place feels almost magical. No one’s outside yet — looks like I’m the first to arrive. Then I see little Niko running toward me, with Elly chasing after him.

We pulled up a hill down a massive driveway. There were towering fir trees on either side and at the end stood the biggest house I’d ever seen. It was six storey's high, and it reached out long across the land. The main body was a pitch black, and it had red wood accents around the edges. The bottom level was enclosed with floor to ceiling bay windows showing a magnificent ballroom with the largest chandelier I’d ever seen. If Aurora Moon had a pack mansion, then Onyx had a castle.

They finally got to the end of the forest, surely Belinda wasn't lieing when she said she lived in the deep forest, but she sure didn't classify well. The blood moon's territory was grudgingly beautiful with tall olive trees surrounding the house and a wide space filled with gravel. The interior was almost similar to the White House but much wider with silvery chandeliers and hard marble floors. One long staircase was leading to a passageway that obviously had different wings. Skye led Camila to a room and me to another.

She trusted him. The cab came to a stop in front of a beach house. It had a majestic view of the Oranje Sea right in front of it. The house wasn't too big. It only had two floors and it seemed that it was at least a century old. The fact that it looked a little worned down, made Olivia love it even more. The cab driver helped Warren carry their luggage into the house. After finally settling down, Warren brought Olivia out to the balcony and stared over the blue waters with her. Lirien murmurs, eyes distant, “he did.” The word did sits heavy in my chest. Before anyone can say more— A shadow sweeps across the table. Wind rushes through the hall, sharp and sudden, extinguishing several candles at once. Plates rattle. Someone curses. Then something lands on the table between the fruit bowl and Ezra’s coffee. An owl. It’s massive. Bigger than it should be, feathers ink-black and silver, eyes glowing faintly gold. It stares at us, unblinking. Every muscle in my body locks.
