Betty POV “Wait,” Mitchell says. His hand slaps down hard on the oak table. “What do you mean by untouchable? Isn’t the matebond a magic thing?” Sir Melvin does not blink. He keeps his shoulders perfectly straight. “Correct, my prince,” Melvin says. “The matebond is born from magic. And I think that is why Miss Betty has two mates. Because you boys are twins.” I do not move. My fingers grip the edge of my seat until my knuckles turn white.

I anchored myself by the water's edge, waiting for her return while my mind aggressively wandered through the timeline. What exact catalyst had permitted Mbok Parti to become fully briefed on Dita’s impending betrothal arrangement? It was an undeniable reality that Mbok Parti maintained a highly intimate companionship with my closest friend. Yet, I reasoned that Dita would likely never consciously volunteer the raw architecture of her romantic trajectory to my domestic staff.

I quickly finished my letter: As a token of my devotion and sincerity, I hope you accept these gifts that represent their joining of our packs. I know your pack has its traditions, and I respect those. But, you took my breath away in our passing earlier, and without a moon in the sky this evening, I thought none should be more radiant than you, my future bride. Your Betrothed, Damien of Silverburn

Trust Nightbane. Trust him. I could not breathe. The letter slipped into my lap. Silence filled the room. Huge. Unstable. Ancient betrothal. Blood-oath union. Mate bond. Not a chance or even instinct alone. Something arranged generations ago. “This can’t be real,” I whispered. But even as I said it, I knew. It explained too much. The impossible pull. His wolf recognized me. That thread between us neither of us could name. Kael finally spoke.

“Why would you call me that?” He looked down at the floor. The shadows from his bracelet flickered over his face, sharpening the lines of tension. “It slipped,” he said. “No. It did not. That felt deliberate.” His throat moved. A swallow. A bracing breath. Then finally, in a low voice that scraped against the walls, he said, “We were betrothed.” The words felt like a blow. A physical blow. They knocked the air from my lungs. “What.” He still would not look at me. “When we were children. The pact was made between the king and your mother. Your magic and mine were compatible. The union would strengthen the bloodlines. Unite houses. Create stability between realm

I summarize. "She was never betrothed to anyone else." "A crazy ex, then?" My jaw clenches from the thought. He lets out a chuckle, "Just one who dad took care of before things got too serious. The fucker ran like a pussy." Good for him. But still, I can't rule him out of the equation just yet. So I'll have to personally ask Lucia about him so I can be at ease. I end the call with Antonio and decide to call it a day.

"It's about your mate. Your true mate in this lifetime. Someone you're supposed to marry." "Didn't I tell you not to waste my time, Mother?" "Your mate has been betrothed to you by a centuries-old treaty with an old rival pack. It's time you leave to see her and claim her as your own mate before you lose sight of her forever." She scoffs. "My sources say she's seeing another man and is supposed to move to another city soon." Without looking up, I make another rebuttal. "And who is that source of yours?" "Her mother."

"What?!! You got to be kidding me l!" "Try me, little kitten" "How dare you try to touch me when we have nothing going on between us?" "Really? Really, sweetheart? Did you just say, nothing going on between us? I need to flash back your mind in case you have forgotten. You.. are my supposedly Betrothed wife and, as your husband, I have all the right to claim you as mine whenever I want and however, I want" "You're crazy!" I hissed and glared at him.

It was supposed to be a day of happiness, a day I have chosen to feel home and more like the little fifteen years old girl I was back then in high school. It's quite alright I did pray to the Moon Goddess to bless me with the best man, little did I know I was betrothed to the very person I have sworn never to set my eyes on. I just can't imagine myself living under the same roof with him, to talk of sharing the same bed with him. Oh… Fuck! This shouldn't be happening to me. "Moon goddess, why have you done this to me? Why do you so much hate me?" I cried bitterly.

she huffed and was glaring at him snaking his hand In her waist he led her to her room. "What are you doing Ben!" He opens the door and she unconsciously enters the room. "Am bethrothed to you, and you to me, so why is my fiancee scared" he teased. "Wait, what?" she wondered this betrothed of a thing she doesn't understand. "Silly girl, to us bethrothed is just like getting engaged then waiting for the final wedding." She was lost, thinking hard on what he said. 'engaged already?' "you are kidding me"
