Cautiously, I slip out of bed, padding toward the source of the noise. I groan inwardly before pushing it open. Cool air wafts in, chilling the tip of my nose and I let out an icy breath. "Really?"

The room erupted in chaos as the council members threw questions at Bart and started to murmur amongst themselves. I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach as I tried to process what was happening.

"So Mr. Leon Alessandro turned 27 eh?" Finn nudged him in the ribs only to earn a smack on the head.

He pushed back Sage's phone and said, "This concerns the future listing operation of Mimosa. Even though she's his wife, she wouldn't make such a hasty decision." Naturally, Sage noticed Shane's impatience. She casually smiled and said, "Mr. Morrison, take another look at this." She pulled up a photo. In it, Benjamin and his wife were posing with an elderly lady in a wheelchair. Sage explained, "The elderly lady is Benjamin's mother-in-law. A few months ago, she had a heart attack and was on the verge of death. A nurse performed timely resuscitation, which saved her life. Mrs. Xenith is particularly grateful."

The morgue was cold, carrying a foul, sterile smell. Expressionless staff pushed me into a metal drawer. With a soft "click," the door closed. The system's voice echoed in my mind. [Death confirmed. Finally, things were coming to an end.

"Jasmine, those who hurt you have paid the price. If there's a next life, you'll be born into a family that truly loves you. "I should go. Work's been a bit busy. Next time, I'll bring your favorite, chilled white wine." Lilith gently brushed the dust from Jasmine's smiling portrait on the stone. She smiled faintly at Jasmine's photo, then turned and walked away. A breeze passed. A small bird flew to the tombstone, flapped its wings lightly, and pecked away the nut on the cake.
