Beyond Reach
For a moment, Zac’s steady figure trembled, and his expression shifted in shock.
After a long pause, he stepped over the dried blood and sat down at his desk, staring blankly at his phone.
He seemed to have all the time in the world, scrolling through old messages one by one.
Eventually, he stopped at our conversation.
The last message was from me. "If I die, will you forgive me and my mom?"
The timestamp showed it was sent six months ago.
He had not replied.
I had not bothered to ask again after that.
He exited the chat, only to reopen it again.
