I nodded once and said lightly, “That was all I wanted to know.” Then I sat back down. The whispers followed me. “Who is he?” “Disgusting.” “He must be one of them.” Baron tried to continue, but his voice cracked. His hands trembled as he turned the pages of his Bible. “Let us read from John chapter eight,” he said, his tone forced. “Verses ten and eleven.” He hesitated, swallowed, and continued. “‘When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?’”

I take a deep breath before reading it. “Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.” I looked up and closed the Bible. The verse is right; Fear not nor be afraid of them. What a beautiful verse? I closed my eyes and thought about the verse that I had read for a moment.

None of his books went unnumbered. The first page of the jotter had his mom's full name boldly written at the top in her calligraphic handwriting: 'From Victoria Sarah Ijeoma Edochie.' And, surprisingly, below it was his name: 'To Joel Chukwuebuka Edochie'. His brows dipped and he flipped to the other side. Some of those verses are; Jeremiah 1:5 Which says, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. " Psalms 139:16 Which says, " You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. "
