I took a breath, trying to calm the tremor in my hands. The choir finished their hymn, the congregation waited and then the pulpit light came on. It was time. I stepped forward, opened my Bible, and began. “Good morning, brothers and sisters.” My voice echoed softly. “Today’s teaching is from the book of First Corinthians, chapter six, verses eighteen to twenty.” I paused, letting the familiar sound of the pages turning settle the air. “‘Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you… You are not your own.’”

None of his books went unnumbered. The first page of the jotter had his mom's full name boldly written at the top in her calligraphic handwriting: 'From Victoria Sarah Ijeoma Edochie.' And, surprisingly, below it was his name: 'To Joel Chukwuebuka Edochie'. His brows dipped and he flipped to the other side. "Romans 10 vs 11: For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth in him shall not be ashamed." Undoubtedly, this was hers because this used to be her favorite quote from the Bible.

He gently opened the heavily embossed cover and set aside a bookmark. He read from the fifteenth chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. And the last verse he spoke without
