I had beaten the monster with his own sickness, and won.
Still, one thought lingered bitterly in my mind:

By morning, the man had vanished. No seat at breakfast. No trace during the next round of games. I didn’t need to ask what happened, Mr. Everhart handled his problems with permanent solutions.
