Lost & found: A Sister Reclaimed
I let the silence stretch, long enough that everyone within earshot turned to listen, before I spoke.
"When two power structures align before a hostile acquisition attempt," I said evenly, "it isn't desperation. It's anticipation."
Murmurs rippled through the nearby clusters of guests. Harrington's smile stayed fixed, but his fingers tightened on the stem of his glass until his knuckles went white.
"You're suggesting someone is making a hostile move?" he asked lightly.
"I'm suggesting," I replied, letting my voice drop to something silkier, more dangerous, "that anyone planning one should reconsider."
